Apple Inc. (AAPL) receives patent for solar powered MacBook

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has received a patent for a solar-powered MacBook. This means that your future laptop could be powered by the sun instead of cable plugs. The patent is called the “Electronic device display module.” The patent said that the laptop will involve a two-sided display for the lid of a portable computer. The front of the lid would be the usual display screen, but the rear would be made out of electrochromic glass.

The back lid could alter the capacity to block or allow sunlight through. The different layers may display various information including a logo. The top layer may have touch-sensitive controls.

There will be photovoltaic cells located under the rear part of the lid that converts light from the sun into electrical power to charge the laptop. There is no guarantee that we will see this technology go commercial in Apple products. Otherwise this would likely be a few years out.
