Posted Sep 22, 2010

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has plans to acquire a Swedish facial recognition company called Polar Rose. The facial recognition software created by Polar Rose can be used in the cloud, Android platform, iPhone platform, or on a computer.

Polar Rose has developed technology with complex algorithms to identify faces in photos. It’s a mystery about what Apple plans to do with Polar Rose. Polar Rose has three products called FaceCloud, FaceLib, and FaceCore. FaceLib is used for building iPhone and Android applications. FaceCore is used for applications to run on servers, Mac OS X, Windows, and/or Linux.
