Apple Xserve To Be Phased Out After January 31

Posted Nov 5, 2010

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is phasing out the Xserve rackmount server as of January 30, 2011. The 160GB, 1TB, and 2TB Apple Drive Modules will ship through the end of 2011 or until their stock runs out. AppleCare warranties will be honored for up to 7 years in California and 5 years in the rest of the world according to Electronista.

Apple also promised that the services will still have a useful service after the transition is made. Apple is also recommending people to use the Mac Mini or Mac Pro as an alternative. The Mac mini is now the “most popular server platform by far,” stated Apple. Apple originally announced the Xserve in 2002 with G4 processors.
