Apple’s Developer Center Got Hacked

Posted Jul 22, 2013

On Sunday, Apple disclosed that the Apple developer website has been compromised, according to AllThingsD.  Apple did not rule out that the names, mailing addresses, and e-mail addresses were compromised.  Apple sent out an e-mail to developers with an explanation.  For the three days before that, the developer website was down for “maintenance.”  The names and addresses were not encrypted.  However, Apple said that “sensitive personal information” was encrypted and was not accessed.

Apple overhauled their developer systems, updated their server software, and rebuilt their entire database before reopening the developer website.  Customer information was not affected by the hack.  ?The website that was breached is not associated with any customer information,? stated Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr. ?Additionally, customer information is securely encrypted.?

The Apple developer website offers access to the iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks operating system and software development kits.  The Apple Developer website also has a forum website for developers to interact with each other.  The website went down on Thursday.  ?We apologize that maintenance is taking longer than expected,? said the Apple developer website.
