Artisan Mobile is helping solve a problem for developers that want to update their apps consistently.  Artisan Mobile has raised $5.5 million in a first round of funding led by FirstMark Capital.  The company will be using the funding to accelerate their platform.

The company has raised $1.5 million in a seed round of funding a few years ago.  The company is led by CEO Bob Moul.  Artisan Mobile allows users to easily change around elements quickly and lets you easily A/B test designs.

Artisan Mobile is helping solve a problem for developers that want to update their apps consistently.  The current process is to develop an app, submit it to the app store, create an update for the app, and then resubmit the app for approval again.  The app has to be resubmitted even if it is a small change.  Artisan Mobile’s flagship product is called Optimize.  Optimize allows iOS developers to tweak apps without having to submit it to the Apple App Store.  Optimize can be used by developers to see what works best for their apps before resubmitting.

Optimize has a patent-pending SDK that can connect to the cloud in order to pick up design elements.  After the Optimize SDK was implemented in an app, it will send a ping to Artisan’s servers for design updates, according to VentureBeat.  Updating the app with the SDK will not affect the app when you are offline.  Optimize is expected to arrive on Android later this summer.

Artisan Mobile used to be known as App Renaissance.  They changed the name because people have a hard time spelling the word “renaissance.”  There are around 40 to 50 top Internet brands that is piloting their software.

Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Artisan Mobile’s Optimize makes it simple for non-technical users to update their apps.  Changes can be made from within an app from their own phone using a web page editor that is similar to a WYSIWYG interface.  The pricing starts at $1,000 per month for a single mobile app with 25,000 monthly active users and it can be scaled up to $10,000 for 25 apps with 5 million monthly active users.
