Atomico is a European venture capital company that has invested in companies like Rovio (Angry Birds parent company), Jawbone (known for the Up fitness tracker), Supercell, and Klarna (Swedish payments company). Atomico will be using their new fund to invest in technology startups that are around Silicon Valley.
“Ten years ago people thought you had to be in Silicon Valley to build a global technology business. That is no longer the case,” stated Atomico founder Niklas Zennstrom. “We see entrepreneurs from all over the world achieving global success faster than ever before and across every sector of the global economy. Our new fund is aimed squarely at this opportunity.”
Zennstrom is a Swedish entrepreneur that is known for being a co-founder of Skype. Skype was sold to Microsoft for $8.5 billion in 2011. This fund is three times the size of their previous round in 2010.
Atomico launched seven years ago and has made over 50 investments.
