AT&T Signs Exclusive Deal With Filip To Safely Monitor Kids

Posted Oct 7, 2013

AT&T wants to help parents that are concerned about the safety of their children.  This is why AT&T has signed an exclusive U.S. network provider deal for the Filip wearable wrist device.  The device supports location tracking, voice calling, and direct messaging.  Filip works by using GPS, GSM voice/data, cell tower location, and WiFi hotspot triangulation.  The Filip lets you follow the location of the device that your child is wearing using a complementary smartphone app.  The app also lets you set up five trusted contacts to communicate with the kids.  The Filip comes in four colors – green, red, yellow, and blue.

“Filip is exactly the type of device for which we formed the Emerging Devices team at AT&T,” stated AT&T Mobility senior vice president of emerging devices Chris Penrose.  “Filip Technologies is taking wearable device innovation in a new direction ? going beyond the smart watch to solve a real problem for parents and make their lives easier.”  Safe Zones can be set so that a notification is sent when the Filip wearer enters or leaves a certain area.  The Filip emergency program can also locate a child and put them in touch with a parent if they get lost.

“Our goal with Filip has been to create a product that empowers kids to explore their world while remaining in touch with those who care about them the most,” added Filip CEO Jonathan Peachey. “With their extensive wireless coverage, commitment to innovation and excellent customer care, AT&T is the ideal carrier to help us bring Filip to the U.S. market.”

The pricing and service details are not yet known, but we will find out in the next few months.
