Earlier today Apple announced a new line of products and a new iPhone. This will be written a little bit later today. Two features that the iPhone will soon have will not be available without a substantial price to the consumer. The new iPhone operating system and iPhone will support tethering and MMS.
Unlimited MMS and SMS will be unlimited at the cost of $20/month. The reason why MMS isn’t available right now is because AT&T has to manually remove the “Opt Out MMS codes” on each of their accounts. MMS will work on the final OS 3.0 build right away when it is launched on June 17.
According to Boy Genius Report, AT&T is also in process of putting together a plan that will cost $70 per month for unlimited data and tethering. SMS and MMS will not be included as part of that $70 per month. Personally I think AT&T is screwing over their customers (including myself) here. Just to have a basic plan and a data plan with tethering, that would run at least $120 per month without text messaging. That is about the same monthly payment as a car lease.
