AT&T Wireless CEO On Why iPhone Landing On Verizon Is Not A Threat

Posted May 19, 2010

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) Wireless CEO Ralph de la Vega is not worried if Verizon gets to offer the iPhone. During the JPMorgan tech conference Vega indicated that switching carriers is tricky to do.

– 70% of AT&T’s customers are on family plans, which is a pain in the butt to move everyone over to a new carrier, de la Vega said.
– 40% of customers are on corporate discount plans, which are also a pain to let go of.

So AT&T is banking on the tricky process of switching carriers to prevent people from switching to Verizon? What about Verizon having better coverage and/or better plans?
