Actor and stand-up comedian Aziz Ansari has just signed a major book deal. We do know that Ansari received a $3.5 million advance for the book though. The book is expected to arrive by around September 2015. The book will focus on how technology has disrupted being single. Ansari will be doing some original research where he will explore social technology. Ansari is also going to put together detailed reports based on conversations he has with “noted academics.”
Ansari is represented by Richard Abate (3 Arts) and Mike Berkowitz (APA). Abate also oversaw book deals for Tina Fey, Mindy Kaling, and B.J. Novak.
According to HollywoodReporter, the book “will provide an investigation into what Ansari argues is an entirely new era for singles, in which the basic issues facing a single person — whom we meet, how we meet them, and what happens next — have been radically altered by new technologies.”
This is a statement that Ansari said about the book deal:
“You know when you text someone you’re romantically interested in and you don’t hear anything back and then you see them post a photo of a pizza on Instagram? That’s exactly what I want this book to deal with. These are strange conundrums that no generation has ever faced before and it’s a fascinating jumping off point for what I hope will be a very interesting book about modern courtship.”
