Starting this holiday season Best Buy has an interest in effectively competing against online giant Amazon.com. Best Buy may offer free home delivery on items that are out of stock in stores according to The Wall Street Journal.
This new strategy is part of Best Buy’s efforts to decrease the growing percentage of people that browse Best Buy’s stores and then buy from online rivals. This practice is known as “showrooming.” I’m a showroomer myself. I like to go into Best Buy and then use the RedLaser app to see if I can find a better deal online.
The percentage of customers that showroom has increased around 3% in the last 2 years and is now in the mid teens. Best Buy believes that one in five showrooming customers make a purchase in the store, but that number is expected to increase after the introduction of online price matching.
