Bitly, a company that is known for shortening links on Twitter, is now testing out a new service called Realtime. Realtime is launching under the “Bitly Labs” subsidiary. Here is a description of Realtime:
Realtime (http://rt.ly) is an internet attention ranking engine, giving you powerful tools for analyzing what the world is paying attention to right now. You can filter and explore activity on the social web by topics, phrases, domains, social networks and more.
Bitly will be using the data they store from shared links and clicks. After that, they will rank and score the links. While I think this is a great idea, I personally think it will take a while for web publishers to care about Bitly’s score compared to their Facebook EdgeRank and their Google PageRank.
