BlackBerry may release two smartphones this year, according to CEO John Chen. BlackBerry is working with Foxconn to build the smartphones and it will cost under $200. BlackBerry is still heavily focused on the enterprise market under Chen.
Chen has taken an aggressive stance since becoming CEO, including the laying off of senior executives and letting Alicia Keys go as the creative director.
Chen also hired SAP executive John Sims to run the enterprise unit and former Sony Ericsson/HTC exec Roun Louks to lead the device business.
Chen emphasized that BlackBerry is not outsourcing their device business to Foxconn, but it is more of a partnership. Foxconn will handle the mechanical design and BlackBerry will work on some hardware and the software.
Chen is expecting the company to be cash-flow positive within the next 4 quarters and profitable by fiscal 2016.
