John (Johnny Northside) Hoff was telling the truth when he said that University of Minnesota ex-community leader Jerry Moore was linked to a high profile mortgage fraud. The Hennepin County jury decided that Hoff would still have to pay Moore $60,000 in damages any way.
The jury had awarded Moore $35,000 in lost wages and $25,000 in emotional distress and the lawsuit has been going on for the last 2 years. Hoff’s blog “The Adventures of Johnny Northside” receives about 300 to 500 readers per day.
Moore was fired in June 2009 one day after Hoff wrote the blog post. In January 2009, Moore was fired from the Jordan Area Community Council so he joined the Urban Research and Outreach/Engagement Center at the University of Minnesota to study mortgage foreclosures. Hoff wrote a post accusing Moore of being involved in a high-profile mortgage fraud that was related to the 16-year imprisonment of Larry Maxwell. Hoff said he had documentation about the accusation as well.
