BMW Announces The i3 Electric Vehicle

has announced the new i3 electric vehicle.  The i3 is BMW’s first production electric vehicle under the “i” brand.  The i3 has a price of $41,350 in the United States and is arriving in Q2 2013.  The 22-kilowatt, 450 lb. lithium-ion power train enables the vehicle to go for 80-100 miles.  The car has 170 horsepower and 184 pound feet of torque.  This gives the i3 a 0-60MPH time of 7 seconds.  The i3 is also be equipped with a 34-horsepower, 650cc two-cylinder generator.

The starting price of the i3 is $41,000.  The drive-train is setup similar to the way that the Chevrolet Volt has.  The car can also get about a 33-42MPG in range-extended mode.  There are three trims available – “Mega,” “Giga,” and “Tera.”  Mega is standard in the U.S. and it has 19-inch forged wheels with unique aspect-ratio 155/70 tires for low rolling resistance, BMW ConnectDrive with eCall, BMW Navigation, iRemote, alarm system, 7.4-kw on-board charger, LED headlights, daytime running lights, and tail lights.
