Boeing’s 777x Airplane Will Have Folding Wings So It Can Fly Into Smaller Airports

Posted Nov 18, 2013

Boeing has announced that in 2020, they will be launching a new type of airplane called the 777x.  The 777x will be 12% more fuel efficient than its competition and will be based on the Boeing 777 airline.  The 777x is using the new GE9X engine from GE Aviation.  It has composite wings that are longer than the current 777 planes.  The Boeing 777x would have wings that fold up when the plane is on the ground. This can shorten the wingspan by over 6 meters.  Boeing has already received 259 orders for the plane.
