Boingo Wireless Inc (NASDAQ:WIFI) has acquired Advanced Wireless Group (AWG) in a massive airport WiFi consolidation deal. Boingo is the leading DAS and Wi-Fi provider and AWG is the second largest airport Wi-Fi provider in the United States. The acquisition is subject to closing conditions and is expected to close in Q4 2013. The financials were undisclosed.
“This is a great opportunity to combine both personnel and best practices from two leading companies and put resources in closer proximity to all of our partner airports,” stated Boingo Wireless president Nick Hulse. “The expanded regional coverage will enable our management teams to boost responsiveness to airport executives and readily address their needs.”
AWG runs public WiFi in 17 U.S. airports including top 20 locations such as the L.A., Charlotte, Miami, Minneapolis, Detroit, and Boston airport. Boingo’s small cell network covers over a million DAS and WiFi locations and reaches over 1 billion consumer per year in locations like airports, stadiums, malls, restaurants, universities, and military bases.
