Gaana.com is a commercial music streaming website that was launched by Indiatimes, a subsidiary of the Times of India, in June 2011. Gaana.com has popular Indian and international music content on their website across 21 languages. Gaana.com was redesigned in January and the company launched a mobile application for the first time back then. The Gaana.com and mobile app is free to use, but you will hear ads while streaming music. In order to generate additional revenue, Indiatimes launched a premium service called Gaana+.
Gaana+ costs $2.99 per month (in India) or $3.99 (outside of India) to turn off ads on the website or mobile app. Music can also be streamed offline and through mobile devices on the paid service. The paid service also has higher quality music at 320kbps rather than 128kbps.
Gaana now has 1 million active users on mobile devices and 5 million users total. The company has updated their iPhone app recently and there are plans to launch an Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry app in the near future. The company plans to add one-click access to playlists, improved search, and multi-rate streaming to their app.
