Posted Aug 18, 2013

The Canonical Ubuntu Edge smartphone has hit a new crowdfunding record for their campaign on Indiegogo.  The Canonical Ubuntu Edge has even surpassed the record that was set by the Pebble smart-watch.

The Canonical Ubuntu Edge smartphone hit $10,671,147 in funds while the Pebble raised $10,266,845.  Canonical was hoping to hit around $32 million by August 21st, which makes them far from their goal.

Canonical raised $3 million in only twelve hours after the campaign launched.  Over 14,500 Ubuntu Edge pledges have been made.  The lowest backers that can be contributed is $20.  The largest contribution that Canonical received is $80,000 and that was made by Bloomberg.

The Canonical Ubuntu Edge was recently repriced to $895.  The Canonical Ubuntu Edge has a 4.5-inch HD scratch-proof sapphire crystal display, 128GB of internal storage space, 4GB RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front camera, multi-core processor, and silicon lithium-ion battery.
