Yesterday it was announced that Cecil Chao Sze-tsung, one of the wealthiest men in Hong Kong, has offered a “marriage bounty” on his lesbian daughter.  His daughter currently does not have an interest in men so Mr. Sze-tsung is supposedly offering $65 million to anyone that can turn her “straight” again.  This story went viral after it was featured by The Telegraph UK, Yahoo! News, and became a top Google search yesterday.  Sze-tsung attained most of his wealth through real estate.  He wants his 33-year-old daughter Gigi Chao (University of Manchester graduate) to marry a man even though she supposedly chose to marry her long-term female partner in France.

“I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor. The important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted,” stated Cecil Chao Sze-tsung in an interview with the South China Morning Post.  He said that reports about his daughter’s marriage are “false.”  The $65 million would go towards helping a suitor start a business too.  Cecil Chao Sze-tsung said that the prize money was “an inducement to attract someone who has the talent but not the capital to start his own business”.

“Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks. She is devoted to her parents, is generous and does volunteer work,” added Sze-tsung.

However one report says that Gigi Chao married Sean Eav, her girlfriend of 7 years in France on April 4.  On Gigi Chao’s public Facebook page, it shows a picture of her and Eav heading to Paris and it said:  “Going to Paris to buy a few businesses.”

Gigi Chao’s Facebook page describes her as  “Helicopter Pilot. Social entrepreneur. Creator of expressions in colour and emotion.”  It also says that she is an executive director at her father’s Hong Kong based company Cheuk Nang.

Cecil Chao Sze-tsung said that he not force his daughter to marry a man against her will though.
