General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) has announced that the Apple Siri telematics assistant software will be coming to six more Chevrolet vehicles. GM first started to offer Siri in Chevrolet Spark and Sonic models that come equipped with Chevrolet MyLink this past February. Siri will now be added to all 2014 SS and Volt models on the LT and LTD trim levels Camaro, Cruze, Equinox, and Malibu.
Chevrolet VP of U.S. marketing Chris Perry said that Siri complements Chevrolet MyLink and “existing capabilities to help deliver an incredible driving experience.”
Chevy drivers can switch Siri on by hitting a button on the steering wheel. Siri interprets the voice commands such as playing music (example: “play ‘Royals’ by Lorde”), making phone calls (example: “Call home”), or getting directions (example: “Where is the nearest Applebees?”).
The Siri Eyes Free service decreases driver distraction by preventing the iPhone screen from lighting up while the vehicle is in motion. The Siri Eyes Free service requires Internet access and is available through the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPad (fourth generation), iPad mini, and iPod Touch (fifth generation).
