Chinese Court Rejects Apple’s Lawsuit For iPad Trademark

Posted Dec 6, 2011

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) had filed a lawsuit against a company called Proview Technology in China over the iPad trademark. Recently a court in southern China rejected Apple’s lawsuit.

Apple is facing some major challenges when it comes to dealing with trademark infringement in China. As a matter of fact, fake Apple stores have been discovered in the southwestern province of Yunnan. Apple is also fighting counterfeit products in China too.

the Intermediate People’s Court in Shenzhen rejected Apple’s complaint against Proview Technology. Proview said that they lawfully registered the iPad trademark in 2000 for products in a number of countries including China.

Apple launched the iPad tablet computer in 2010 and sales of the device skyrocketed. No other company has been able to sell that many tablets despite all of the competition. Proview is also suing Apple for 10 billion yuan ($1.5 billion) in compensation for copyright infringement.
