Cisco Launches ?mi HD Home Video Calling System For $599 Plus Monthly Fee

Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) has launched a new video calling system called ?mi (pronounced yoo-mee). ?mi lets you do 1080p video calling between your TV and any other ?mi system. It also works with Google Video Chat. The price of the ?mi is $599 plus $24.99 per month for access to the service.

The ?mi system includes a camera, a remote, and a console box. The device automatically accommodates to fluctuation in bandwidth. The camera can zoom and pan. The console has HDMI out for connecting to the TV.

The ?mi has basic phone functions like video voice mail, call blocking, etc. You can also record videos up to 720p/30 and share them on e-mail, YouTube, and Facebook.

The ?mi is available for pre-order on October 6th and is shipping on November 11th. The bandwidth requires a 3Mbps upload rate or 1.5Mbps for 720p.
