Cloud Computing Service Microsoft Azure Surpasses $1 Billion

Microsoft Windows Azure is a cloud computing platform and infrastructure that can deploy and managing applications through a global network of Microsoft managed data-centers.  Windows Azure has surpassed $1 billion in annual sales for the first time, proving that they can be a real threat to Amazon Web Services.

Around 20% of companies use the cloud are on Azure compared to 71% that is on Amazon according to Forrester Research analyst James Staten.  Within one year, Microsoft can hit as high as 35% added Staten.

Microsoft?s Azure subscriptions have grown 48% in the past 6 months according to Microsoft VP for marketing at the server and tools division Takeshi Numoto.  The Microsoft unit that includes Azure has hit 9 straight quarters of sales growth of at least 10%.
