‘Community’ may return on Hulu

Greendale may be opening its doors again. Hulu is currently in talks with Sony Pictures TV for a sixth season of “Community,” according to sources with Deadline. There is a proposed plan that would include a 13-episode new season of the show with creator Dan Harmon overseeing the development. This would push the show past its 100-episode milestone. Community was cancelled after 97 episodes across five seasons.

There is an inside joke between Community fans calling for “six seasons and a movie.” This deal would get the show to six seasons. Hulu already owns the exclusive digital rights to the five seasons of “Community” and Comedy Central has the off-network rights.

Hulu would not be the only streaming video service that would have revived a comedy. Netflix funded a new season of the show “Arrested Development.” Hulu has committed to other original programs like The Awesomes, Deadbeat, and East Los High.
