Contently raises $9 million in Series B funding

Contently is a New York based startup that has raised $9 million in Series B funding. Contently has 30 employees that licenses software to brands, agencies, and publishes.

Contently works with a network of freelancers. Contently customers can work with freelancers on a project basis for writing blog posts, sponsored articles, white papers, and social media posts. Some of Contently’s customers include AMEX, GE, Pepsi, Federated Media, and Weber Shandwick.

Publishers like Mashable, Forbes, Gawker, and The Atlantic have worked with Contently. Contently’s freelancers produced Mashable’s BMW’s Global Innovation Series.

The clients put their projects into the system and sets a price. Contently generates revenues by taking a 15% transaction fee from the journalists. Contently has plans to increase their employee count to 75 people by the end of the year. Investors in this round include: Sigma Prime, Sigma West, Lightbank, Contour Ventures, ffVC and David Lerner.
