Cracker Barrel To Offer Electric Vehicle Charges In Tennessee With Ecotality Partnership

Posted Dec 1, 2010

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. (NASDAQ:CBRL) restaurants will soon have Blink electric vehicle chargers as supplied by Ecotality Inc. The pilot program will start at 24 restaurants across Tennessee.

One of the major problems with the adapting of electric vehicles, besides the high costs, is the lack of charging stations. Crack Barrel restaurants are generally located off the exits of major highways, making it a great fit for charging stations. About 40% of Crack Barrel restaurant customers are passing through town.

Guests will be able to get a full charge in under 30 minutes at 12 DC Fast Charging stations. Ecotality will charge for the service, but the price is unknown. Ecotality plans on installing about 15,000 charging stations across 16 cities, 6 states, and in D.C. Ecotality was given $114.8 million in stimulus grant funding. The grant was matched with private investments giving them about $230 million to work with. Cracker Barrel is headquartered in Lebanon, TN.
