Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has promoted Denise Young Smith as the head of human resources. Apple decided to pick an insider with experience in their retail store division.
Smith is succeeding Joel Podolny. Podolny will be working full-time at Apple University. In Silicon Valley, Apple intensely competes against Google, Facebook, and other technology companies for recruiting top engineers.
Glassdoor, a website that ranks the best places to work, placed Apple at rank #35. This is down from 10th place in 2012.
Smith used to be the head of the human resources for Apple’s retail operations. Apple’s retail stores employ 42,800 out of 80,300 workers as of the latest fiscal year.
Podolny is the former dean of Yale University and was recruited by Steve Jobs in 2008 to create Apple University. Apple University is a manager training programing at the company. Jobs oversaw the creation of Apple University’s curriculum, including the ?What Makes Apple Apple? course.
