deviantART Raises Funding From Autodesk

Posted Sep 26, 2013

deviantART is one of the most popular art gallery websites.  The company has raised a strategic investment from Autodesk.  The financial terms of the deal was undisclosed, but we know that Autodesk is now the company’s largest investor.  Samir Hanna, the VP of consumer products at deviantART, is now on the board of directors at the website.

Founded in 2000, deviantART did not actually raise any outside funding until 2007.  Autodesk and deviantART said that the two companies have a similar mission to focus on serving artists.

Autodesk’s Pixlr service is especially focused on the artist community.  deviantART plans on using the funding to expand the capabilities on mobile devices.

deviantART now has 27.8 million users (known as deviants) that has created 253 million artworks.  The website hits around 2.5 billion page views per month and 80,000 artworks are submitted per day.
