Diapers.com Founders Dump Amazon.com

The two founders of Quidsi have left Amazon.com.  Amazon.com acquired the parent company of Diapers.com and Soap.com in November 2010 for $545 million.  The two Quidsi founders are chief executive officer Marc Lore and chief operating officer Vinit Bharara.  Quidsi is based in Jersey City, N.J.  The two co-founders said that they are planning on taking some time off before starting something new.

Quidsi had found a way to ship diapers and other household goods for free or at a low cost around the time of the acquisition.  Quidsi expanded into selling children’s toys, books, pet products, and home appliances.

The two “have decided to step down from their leadership positions at Quidsi to focus on new endeavors,” stated a Quidsi spokesman.  Maria Renz, a former VP of media for Amazon.com has been CEO since July 1st.

Lore and Bharara started the company in New Jersey back in 2005.  Quidsi remained independent from Amazon.com after the acquisition as they had their own separate warehousing and packaging.  Quidsi did launch a free two-day shipping service for an annual membership service similar to Amazon.com’s $79 per year Prime membership.
