The Walt Disney Company is launching a startup accelerator

The Walt Disney Company has announced that they are selecting ten startup companies for a three-month mentorship and seed-stage investment program. This program is called Disney Accelerator and it will be based in Los Angeles. Startup accelerator TechStars is going to oversee the program. Applications are being accepted from early-stage companies that have consumer media and entertainment product ideas.

The participants will receive $120,000 in investment capital for developing their ideas and will receive mentor support from top Disney executives include Robert Iger. Executives at Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, ESPN and Walt Disney Imagineering will also be available for mentorship. The participants will be given access to stories, characters, technology, and other Walt Disney resources.

This program will start on June 30th and conclude with an Investor Demo Day in September. The application deadline is April 16, 2014.
