Cloud storage company Dropbox went offline at around 9PM EST on Friday night. It was not possible to access the service through the desktop browser or through a mobile app during that time. The API also stopped working at around 8:45PM EST. Dropbox reassured users that they were not hacked.
?We are aware of an issue currently affecting the Dropbox site. We have identified the cause, which was the result of an issue that arose during routine internal maintenance, and are working to fix this as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience,? said Dropbox in a statement as quoted by TheNextWeb.
Dropbox fixed the outage and said that a hacker that claimed responsibility for their downtime is a hoax. A hacker group called 1775Sec claimed responsibility for Dropbox’s downtime on Twitter, but Dropbox said that information is not true.
