Dropbox Focusing On Resolving App Rejection Issues With Apple

Online storage service company Dropbox is working with Apple Inc. on fixing an issue that is causing a number of developers using the Dropbox SDK from getting their apps rejected from the Apple App Store. The apps are being rejected because of links to an external purchase option. Developers have been discussing the rejection issues on the Dropbox forums. Apple was not happy with a new version of the Dropbox SDK that included a link to the “desktop version” of its website with a page for creating accounts that allowed users to buy additional space outside of the app.

Dropbox has 50 million users across 250 million devices. “Apple is rejecting apps that use the Dropbox SDK because we allow users to create accounts. We’re working with Apple to come up with a solution that still provides an elegant user experience,” said Dropbox in a statement.

A Dropbox employee issued a temporary solution on the company’s forums with a new version of the SDK that removed the link that Apple did not like. The company promised to create a “better solution” next week.

Dropbox founder Drew Houston said last year that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs offered 9 figures to acquire the company in late 2009. After Houston and his partner declined, Jobs warned them that Apple was planning on entering their market. Apple went on to launch iCloud last June.
