The United Arab Emirates (UAE) may roll out a drone delivery system for mailing governing documents within the year, according to Sky News. The aircraft would use fingerprint and retina identification to deliver parcels like ID cards, driving licenses, and other permits.
“The UAE will try to deliver its government services through drones,” stated cabinet affairs minister Mohammed al Gergawi in an interview with Sky News. “This is the first project of its kind in the world.”
The bottlenecks in rolling out such a system right now is high summer temperatures and sandstorms. It is also unknown how the drones would make urban deliveries in high density areas.
