E Ink Reports Sales Are Down 46% YOY For The Quarter

Posted Aug 16, 2013

E Ink is best known for designing the displays for the Kindle and the Sony Reader.  E Ink has reported their quarterly earnings and sales are down 46% year-per-year with a net loss of $33.6 million.  This is not E Ink’s first net loss, but it is their largest in four years according to TechCrunch.  E Ink is also expecting e-reader sales to range at between 10 and 15 million for 2013, which is about the same as last year.

E Ink’s e-paper displays represent around 70% of their overall revenues.  E Ink is known for requiring very little power and for being easier on the eyes, especially in the sun.

E Ink saw a slower quarter because e-reader companies are updating their product lines for the third quarter, which is one quarter later than usual.

E Ink is expecting to have a better quarter during the holiday season.  The company is also seeing a lot of growth in Russia and Asia.
