During last night’s 2008 Presidential Debate, John McCain gave a shout-out to former eBay CEO Meg Whitman in the form of saying that she would make a good candidate for Treasury secretary. The other statement McCain made about Whitman caught the eye of Pierre Omidyar, the actual founder of eBay.
“Meg Whitman was CEO of a company which started with 12 people,” stated McCain.
ValleyWag pointed out that Omidyar started out the company by itself in Sept. 1995. And Meg Whitman joined as CEO 3 years later when the company had 30 employees. Before Whitman was hired, the company even had revenues of more than $4 million.
Whitman won McCain’s recommendation because she joined his presidential campaign as the national co-chair. She plans on running for the 2010 Governor of California election in a position that is currently filled by Arnod Schwarznegger.
