eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) has acquired a Belgian classifieds websites 2dehands.be (Dutch for “second-hand”) and 2ememain.be (French for “second-hand”). The websites receive a total of about 5.5 million unique visitors per month, said eBay in a blog post. Not bad considering Belgium’s whole population is 11 million.
These websites will be rolled into the eBay Classifieds Group. The Group has classifieds websites in over 25 countries and 1,000 cities. 2dehands.be and 2ememain.be will continue to operate independently, but eBay will be investing in the two websites.
“eBay Classifieds Group will invest in the further development of the local Belgian businesses, enhancing the platforms to be faster and more intuitive for users. Furthermore, given eBay?s expertise in creating leading mobile platforms and the enormous potential for mobile growth for 2dehands.be and 2ememain.be, the development of innovative mobile technologies is a priority for the business,” said eBay.
The terms of the acquisition was undisclosed. Both websites will be run by local teams that understand the nuances of local culture. 2dehands.be and 2ememain.be launched in 2000.
