The Oscar selfie that Ellen DeGeneres took with Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Spacey, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong’o, etc. is reportedly worth up to $1 billion dollars, according to Publicis CEO Maurice Levy.
DeGeneres took the selfie during the 2014 Academy Awards and Levy pegged the selfie at between $800 million and $1 billion. Levy’s company represents Samsung, including the phone that was used for taking the selfie. The estimated value is based on the number of times that the photo was shared and seen through social media.
The selfie was seen by 37 million people around the world and the Oscars were watched by 43 million people. Once the picture was posted, Twitter went offline for 20 minutes.
