Elon Musk Bought James Bond’s Submersible Lotus For $866K, Will Put A Tesla Engine In It

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has reportedly bought the submersible Lotus Espirit vehicle from the film The Spy Who Love Me, which is a movie about James Bond looking into British and Soviet ballistic missiles that have disappeared. The price of the vehicle was around $866,000 and it never actually swam.  That is one expensive movie prop. So what is Elon going to do with the vehicle?  There is a rumor that he wants to put a Tesla engine inside of it, according to Jalopnik.

Here is a statement that Jalopnik received from Tesla’s PR:

“It was amazing as a little kid in South Africa to watch James Bond in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ drive his Lotus Esprit off a pier, press a button and have it transform into a submarine underwater. I was disappointed to learn that it can’t actually transform. What I’m going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain and try to make it transform for real.”
