Extreme Networks has acquired Enterasys for $180 million as part of a bid to better compete with other giant networking companies. Enterasys sells routers, switches, WiFi gateways, and management software. Some of their customers include the Philadelphia Eagles, the Henry Ford Health System, Comcast, and ING.
Extreme will be combining the product and technology roadmaps. The ExtremeXOS network operating system will be combined with Enterasys’ support hardware.
Enterasys spun out of Cabletron Systems in 2000. Enterasys went private in a $386 million deal back in 2005. The Gores Group and Tennebaum Capital Partners are the companies that took Enterasys private.
The combined company is expecting to hit around $630 million in revenues.
Enterasys currently has 900 employees and $330 million in annual sales. Extreme is hitting around $299 million in annual sales.
