Facebook Announces Places Deals, Single Sign-On, Places API, and Other Mobile Updates

Facebook held an event to announce an update with their mobile services. One of the major feature announcements is Facebook Places Deals. When opening Places on the Facebook mobile application, you will be able to see local deals in the area. Facebook also announced that they have 200 million mobile users.

Some of the other announcements include:
1. Single Sign-On: This feature will let you connect Facebook to websites and applications using a single click. All you’ll have to do is click a “Login with Facebook” button.

2. Facebook Groups for Mobile: The Facebook iPhone and Android applications will soon let you view recently launched Facebook Groups.

3. Facebook Places API: Facebook is allowing developers to access local data and activity streams.

4. Facebook Deals: Facebook is launching a Deals feature with many large marketing companies. One of the best deals Facebook Places Deals is offering includes “Be one of the first 10,000 people to check in at Gap on November 5 receive a free pair of jeans.” Here are some of the Deals launch partners: 24 Hour Fitness, San Francisco 49ers, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, American Eagle Outfitters, Chipotle, Gap, Golden State Warriors, H&M, Harrah’s, JCPenney, Macy’s, McDonalds, The North Face, REI, Starbucks, etc. Businesses with deals will be tagged in yellow.
