According to Bloomberg sources, Facebook is working on developing an app to compete against Apple’s Find My Friends app. I’m assuming that the app would have a map with thumbnails of friends based on where they have checked in.
The new app should be released in mid-March and will utilize Facebook’s Nearby functionality. By detecting your current location, Facebook would be able to provide more relevant ads. The app is being compared to Google Latitude and Foursquare to track what places their friends are going to in real-time.
In Facebook’s fourth quarter earnings, the company has seen more mobile users than desktop users for the first time. This makes it more important than ever for Facebook to create innovative ways to earn money from mobile users.
