Posted Dec 9, 2009

Facebook sent out a press release today asking all of their users to update and review their privacy settings. Users will be given options over what tools to use in order to control what information is being shared.

?Facebook is transforming the world?s ability to control its information online by empowering more than 350 million people to personalize the audience for each piece of content they share,? stated Facebook VP of Communications, Public Policy, and Marketing Elliot Schrage. ?We?ve always designed Facebook to enable people to control what information they share with whom?it?s the reason our service continues to attract such a broad and diverse group of users from around the world. We?re proud of the latest evolution we?re announcing today and we will continue to innovate to serve users? changing needs.?

Facebook will have a Publisher Privacy Control that adds a level of security for to photos, status updates, friends list, etc. Regional networks will be removed and will be replaced with four control settings — Friends, Friends of Friends, Everyone and Customized. I actually do not like the fact that regional networks are being removed. This feature helped me keep track of where my friends live.
