Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg said that the social network does not have a problem with teenagers. In Facebook’s last earnings call, Facebook CFO David Ebersman said that the company saw a decrease in daily users, “specifically among younger teens.”
This led to a media frenzy that Twitter is becoming the social media platform of choice for teenagers. Facebook is also rumored to have made a $3 billion offer for SnapChat, a mobile app that is popular with teenagers.
Mike Isaac of AllThingsD spoke with Sandberg following the Salesforce.com Dreamforce conference event. Here is what they had to say.
AllThingsD: There has been quite a bit of chatter over the past few weeks about teens and declining teen usage of Facebook. On Facebook?s last earnings call, we heard [Facebook CFO] David Ebersman note some dropoff among the younger teen demographic, but he didn?t really say much else. Can you elucidate?
Sheryl Sandberg: So I think the reaction to that comment has been blown out of proportion. As we said on the earnings call, overall U.S. teen usage of Facebook remains stable.
The majority of U.S. teens are on Facebook and the majority of U.S. teenagers use Facebook on a daily basis.
“One of the challenges we face right now is that we?re a decade old. That means that we?re not the newest.
