Facebook had announced a new messaging system earlier this week and it turns out that the team behind an acquired company helped build it. On October 8, Zenbe had shut down the e-mail product. It turns out that Facebook acquired part of Zenbe’s intellectual property. Some of Zenbe’s employees joined Facebook as well.
“You may have heard this week that Facebook is launching a new unified messaging product,” stated Zenbe CEO Alan Chung. “We here at Zenbe are happy to have played a small role in this: a few months ago, three of our engineers joined Facebook as part of a talent acquisition. We believe that messaging and collaboration on the web are on the cusp of a new wave of innovation, and we’re excited to be playing a role in that.”
