Facebook has hired Gary Briggs as their new chief marketing officer. Briggs was previously the marketing head at Motorola Mobility, a subsidiary of Google. Briggs will be replacing Facebook’s VP of product marketing Eric Antonow.
Antonow oversaw Facebook’s marketing department since 2010. Briggs will oversee Facebook’s product marketing, platform marketing, events, communication design, content strategy, and brand marketing.
Prior to working at Google, Briggs was the VP of consumer marketing at Google where he oversaw marketing efforts around search, Chrome, Google+, commerce, Google.org, and Google’s overall brand strategy. Briggs used to be the CEO of a gift card startup company called Plastic Jungle before joining Google in 2010. He also worked at eBay for 6 years across various marketing positions.
While at Motorola, Briggs was an advisor to Motorola chief executive officer Dennis Woodside and chief marketing officer Bill Morgan.
“Facebook isn’t just a company. For more than a billion people, it’s their connection to the friends and things they care about most. Telling the story of such an important and still very young brand is an incredible opportunity, and I cannot wait to get started,” said Briggs in a statement.
Briggs will be replacing to Facebook’s VP of product Chris Cox. Facebook head of consumer marketing Rebecca Van Dyck will report to Briggs, according to AdAge.
