At the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) announced that around 375 million people play at least one Facebook-connected game per month. Around 735 million game referrals are sent out per day, which ends up bringing new users to the games that send them. Facebook conducted a study in November to determine how many social network users are gamers.
The average user that plays the same game on two or more platforms spends around 3.3 times as much money on virtual goods as people that play on just the desktop. Cross-platform gamers have a tendency to likely click on an ad.
The most popular game on Facebook over the past year is Candy Crush Saga. Candy Crush is followed by Farm Heroes Saga and Pet Rescue Saga. These three games are made by King.com. King.com has surpassed Zynga as the top Facebook games developer and is preparing to go public.
