Facebook Inc (FB) launches mobile ad network called ‘Audience Network’

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has launched a mobile ad network called “Facebook Audience Network” at the f8 conference today. This service will allow developers to make money without having to sell their own ads. Facebook will handle the targeting, handle measurement, and payment routing. All developers will have to do is integrate a small bit of code into the apps. Facebook handles the rest. Developers can also work directly with Facebook to create native ad units that look more fitting with the app.

Facebook said that developers can sign-up for the Facebook Audience Network or talk to ad representatives for early access. The program is going to be rolled out over the next few months. It will start with advertisers in buying app installs and engagement ads.

“Facebook ads work because they?re personal, relevant and easy to measure on both desktop and mobile. The Audience Network brings these same powerful features to additional app-based mobile experiences, giving marketers even more scale for their Facebook campaigns,” states the Facebook Audience Network website. “The Audience Network uses the same targeting available for Facebook ads today, including Custom Audiences, core audiences and lookalike audiences. It features the same measurement tools marketers use for their Facebook ads, too.”

The ads are set up in three formats standard IAB banners, standard IAB interstitials, and native ad units. By integrating the Facebook SDK, advertisers can track engagements and conversions driven by the ads. The SDK also tracks demographic information and audience stats.
