Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has plans to release more standalone mobile apps such as Facebook Messenger and Facebook Camera. Facebook also owns popular mobile photo social network Instagram. Facebook is seeing around half a billion people using the mobile app every month.

“While the core business growth is going to come from the main app that exists,” stated Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in an earnings call today. “You should also expect us to start building a few of these other things that we will focus on over time and develop into meaningful things like Messenger and Instagram are today.”

Facebook launched the Messenger app in 2011 and published many updates to the Facebook Android and iOS app throughout 2013. Facebook Messenger’s users jumped 700% in the three-month period, according to CFO David Ebersman.

Instagram doubled their user base in the last year. In January 2013, Instagram had around 90 million monthly active users so it is assumed that they now have 180 million monthly active users. Facebook acquired Instagram for $1 billion in cash and stock in April 2012. The acquisition was driven by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
