Facebook has announced that they will be building an engineering office in New York City. This is the first engineering office that Facebook has opened outside of the west coast. The NYC engineering office will open in early 2012.
?More than 800 million people around the world rely on Facebook, and more than half of them visit every day. Operating at such a large scale, and innovating as quickly as we do, we need to recruit the most talented engineers in the world,? stated Facebook VP of Engineering Mike Schroepfer. ?New York has a strong history of innovation and is home to thousands of talented technical people, and we want them to help us solve the challenges of designing and building the next generation of Facebook.?
The NYC Facebook office will be led by Serkan Piantino, whom is currently an engineering manager at Facebook. He previously led the engineering team behind the Facebook News Feed. He also built the infrastructure behind the Timeline feature. Piantino is currently managing the engineering team that runs Facebook Messages and Chat.
Piantino is originally from Connecticut and joined Facebook in Palo Alto in 2007. He moved back to New York for Facebook in summer 2010. Jay Parikh will be the executive sponsor for the new office. You can apply for engineering jobs at Facebook from the URL: http://www.facebook.com/fbnyc.
